Today we moved to our final destination, Zurich. After taking the short one-hour trip from Bern, and checking in to the hotel, we got back on the train and headed north – half an hour away at Schaffhausen, and Europe’s largest waterfall.
We got off the train at Schloss Laufen, then walked down the hill to the boat ramp where they take you on a ten minute wild ride across the Rhine to Neuhausen. The whole place is spectacular.
From there we walked to the nearby train station and caught the train two stops to the northernmost Swiss town of Schaffhausen, which is quite pretty. We walked around for a while enjoying the town, the sat down in the main square to have an aperol and lunch.
After lunch we headed back to Zurich, to spend the afternoon. It was a Saturday, so the streets were full of locals and tourists. We walked down the main shopping street, Bahnhofstrasse, then walked across to Lindenhof Park for a beautiful view of the Limat river.
We wandered around Zurich for the afternoon, across the river on Munsterbrucke, around the cathedral (Grossmunster) and through the old town. We took our time enjoying the sites.
Exhausted, we stopped for dinner in the old town on Niederdorfstrasse, at a French restaurant, Brasserie Louis. When we finished, we went back to the hotel for a night cap in the bar.
